Do You Know What Good Boundaries Look Like?

Many of us think we have good boundaries…until we see what good actually looks like.

Things then look quite different when the lens changes.

This is a topic that keeps coming up with clients recently. It's been a personal challenge for years and it still takes conscious effort to maintain. The results are worth it, though the process isn't exactly easy.

1. Time Boundaries -> I found myself frustrated and not getting to the important actions and people. Once I got clearer on my priorities and allocating time accordingly, this became easier to manage.

2. Emotional Boundaries -> I didn't understand how much protecting energy and feelings impacted my day-to-day. With the shift to understanding what was feeding my energy and who my 'safe space' people are, this changed completely.

3. Mental Boundaries -> I can admit now that I allowed other people's opinions to skew my thoughts and beliefs too much. Putting a limit on how much others influence me and giving myself permission to believe my opinions matter, even if they're different to everyone else, changed how I show up.

4. Digital Boundaries -> I underestimated the impact of digital. Changing who I followed ensured I was following people who inspired and taught instead of pulling my energy down with negativity or lack of authenticity.

5. Relationship Boundaries -> If I were scoring this list, this one would probably get the lowest score. It's an ongoing learning process to be clear on what I need and making sure it goes both ways. Work relationships can be particularly challenging.

6. Work Boundaries -> I left to enforce this one. That's not the only option though. If you get the others right, it's completely possible to balance work responsibilities with self-care without burning out.

If any of this sounds familiar, if you find yourself saying yes when you actually want to say no, and if resentment is building, along with stress and overwhelm -> These are all signs that boundaries are being crossed.
