Even coaches need coaches.
For me, some of the most powerful growth happens when someone else helps me see what I can’t see myself.
The reality is we all have blind spots - the subtle patterns, beliefs, or habits that we simply can’t see on our own. They’re invisible until someone else helps us notice them, but they potentially limit our growth and impact if left unchecked.
That’s why I intentionally surround myself with a trusted circle of people who reflect me back to myself with honesty and care.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of spending time with one of these wise souls. Our conversation wasn’t just enlightening—it was humbling. She asked the questions I wouldn’t have thought to ask myself, and gently held up a mirror so I could see what I’d been missing. It’s in these moments of reflection that the real growth happens.
I'm a bit of a self-proclaimed smarty-pants, so I've never loved other people pointing things out to me. I take it as a personal challenge to catch things quicker than those around me. I used to find it quite uncomfortable owning up and acknowledging things that had been staring me in the face without me knowing it. Now I search for it. Every bit of information is another piece of the puzzle.
Coaching, at its core, is about creating a safe space for self-discovery, accountability, and transformation. But even coaches need that space. We need others to challenge our assumptions, illuminate our blind spots, and remind us that growth is a lifelong journey—never a finished product.
If you’re a leader, a coach, or simply someone committed to personal development, I encourage you: don’t go it alone. Find your circle. Seek out those who will reflect your strengths and your shadows, and who will walk alongside you as you grow.
Who’s in your trusted circle? When was the last time you let someone hold up a mirror for you?
